Or, how we won the battle but lost the war…
So now (or rather, quite a while ago), we (meaning the United States Military) succeeded in invading Iraq an killing a whole lot of people. Pats on the back all around.
The problem is, now we still have people in the region pissed off at us (even more so now that we’re an occupying power), and we have totally destabilized the country.
This is not to say that Saddam’s regime was the best kind of stability, but it’s not like we haven’t put up with other oppressive regimes when it suited our purposes (Central/South America anyone?).
And don’t get me started on the WMD situation…
